What is Laser Resurfacing?

June 3, 2016

Fine lines, deep wrinkles, brown spots, acne scars, skin laxity… the list goes on. These are thlaser1e common skin signs that make us look a little more, shall we
say, mature. What can be done to correct these signs and give us a more youthful appearance?A combination of a great daily skin care regimen, Botox, fillers, and chemical peels are all excellent options, and are often part of a comprehensive aesthetic plan to get you looking your finest. Where do lasers fit into the mix? Well with advanced fractionated laser technology, wrinkles, age spots, and scars can all be targeted at the same time!

The term “fractional” refers to treating a portion or fraction of the skin. By only treating microscopic areas in one session, healing time is greatly rlaser2educed compared to traditional resurfacing lasers. Each treated area is surrounded by normal viable skin from which migration of new skin occurs, increasing the time to healing. By inducing this type of microscopic injury to the skin, new collagen and tissue tightening occurs.

The two types of fractional resurfacing lasers are categorized as ablative and non-ablative. Non-ablative fractional lasers (ResurFX) require less downtime (2-4 days), however typically take 4-6 treatments to achieve the desired result. Ablative resurfacing (Ultra Pulse ActiveFX and DeepFX) is more aggressive, has a longer recovery period (5-7 days), but in many cases can reverse skin damage in a single treatment.
