Saggy, under-chin fat, often referred to as a ‘double chin,’ can be a concern for both men and women, especially as we grow older. Unwanted fat also accumulates below the chin as a consequence of weight fluctuations, and genetics.
Before the innovative injectable medicine known as Kybella was approved by the FDA in early 2015, liposuction was the typical method used to improve fat below the chin. Ferrara Derm is therefore pleased to offer Kybella to patients desiring a non-invasive fix for their double chin.
Kybella is specifically designed to target submental fatty tissue (fat below the chin). It is made from deoxycholic acid, which is naturally present in the body, and assists with the absorption of fat.
Kybella is injected into the fat beneath the chin over a course of 2-6 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart. A single session may consist of 20 or more injections, and takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Kybella breaks down the fat cells, and the fat dissolves and is soon eliminated by the body.
What is the recovery like?
There is really no downtime with Kybella, but patients can expect some bruising, redness, and swelling after treatment. While the bruising and redness will resolve quickly, the swelling can last 7 days or more.
Most patients are able to resume normal activities immediately, but those with severe swelling will need a few days off from work. The fullness under the chin will start to shrink within 2 to 3 weeks.
Who is a good candidate?
If you are bothered by fullness in the submental region, and are in good health, you may be a good candidate for Kybella.
