The two types of fractional resurfacing lasers are categorized as ablative and non-ablative. Non-ablative fractional lasers (ResurFX) require less downtime (2-4 days), however typically take 4-6 treatments to achieve the desired result. Ablative resurfacing (Ultra Pulse ActiveFX and DeepFX) is more aggressive, has a longer recovery period (5-7 days), but in many cases can reverse skin damage in a single treatment.
