Skin Tightening
Facial skin loosens and wrinkles as you age, but it’s possible to fight off the effects of aging, with the use of non-invasive technologies to firm and tighten the skin. Non-invasive skin tightening typically involves the use of laser, light, or radio frequency (RF) technology, to stimulate the dermal skin layer and rebuild collagen, so that the skin is tighter and firmer than before.
These technologies typically bypass the upper layer of skin (the epidermis) and stimulate the dermis, which is where the collagen fibroblasts are located. Collagen provides necessary support and structure for the skin, so that it maintains a healthy, youthful appearance.
The Exilis and Candela Yag lasers are two of the skin tightening options available at Ferrara Derm.
Skin tightening with the Exilis and Candela Yag lasers
Exilis uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to precisely target the deep layers of the skin, where it stimulates the collagen supporting tissue. The Candela Yag laser is a long pulsed laser that gently heats the skin, and helps to build collagen, with the overall effect of creating tighter skin.
What they treat
Both lasers can be used to tighten the skin on the face, neck, and other parts of the body. They can also reduce wrinkles, and improve the texture of the skin.
The Results
In general, the first treatment immediately yields subtle results which continue to increase over the next 12 weeks, as collagen levels increase. Repeat sessions build this response; therefore better results are obtained after completing the series of treatments. Optimal skin tightening results typically occur about 3-6 months after treatment.
If you are looking for a treatment that will correct moderate skin laxity, and also offer long term improvement in collagen to enhance the appearance of the skin, you would be an excellent candidate for skin tightening.
